The 989 field is repeatable. It has indicators and subfield codes.

 

SUBFIELD CODE MEANING CODING INSTRUCTIONS ORION1 MNEMONIC
$a Inventory assistant code: initials of the person who did the inventory Input as three letters, with an 'x' added at the end if necessary to fill out the three character space allotted.

  • Code as unk when unknown
  • Code as nax when not inventoried (i.e., cataloged at the time of receipt)

$b Inventory date: Input in the form YYMMDD, e.g. 841231 for Dec. 31, 1984.

  • When unknown, code with uuuuuu
  • Substitute a u for any unknown digit
  • Code as naxxxx when not inventoried (i.e., cataloged at the time of receipt)
