SECTION 42, SPECIAL PROBLEMS--SOUND TRACK FILM

With the exception of sound track on 1/4" magnetic tape, sound track on film should be described using Chapter 7 of AACR2, and coded as visual material (not sound recording) in MARC 21. Code presentation format (007 byte 4 (Motion picture presentation format)) for sound track using the same code given to the related picture. For 16 mm. or 35 mm. mag track, code 007 byte 10 (Positive/negative aspect) as code n for 'not applicable,' and assume a safety triacetate base. Mono. is also standard here. U.S. is probably edge track while European is probably center track (per Bob Gitt). Sound track on 1/4" magnetic tape should be described using Chapter 6 of AACR2, and coded as sound recording in MARC 21.
